Why are you required to apply instructional design model(s) in your assignment?

Well, this is a step by step guide for you to build your blog and create your teaching and learning resources!

If you use the ADDIE model, definitely you know what you want to do with the blog:

  • Analysis (need assessment): Is the blog to be used for teaching or learning / Enrichment / Remedy?
  • Design (content, layout, etc): What should be included, how should it be organized?
  • Develop (creating a functional blog): How to incorporate all the plugins, features to provide interactive learning processes with feedback.
  • Evaluate (review and revise): Check and refine your work according to the objectives and target that you have set from the very beginning.

If you refer to the ASSURE model, certainly you will get the right learning experience for your target audience.

  • Analyze learners: Which age group, competency level, preferred learning styles.
  • State objectives: You know EXACTLY what learning outcomes, learning standard to be attained and the scope of your learning materials.
  • Select media, method, material, etc.: Your learning objective = learning resources = assessment
  • Utilize media: You’ll sequence the resource appropriately, give clear and relevant instruction to ensure your learners know WHAT TO DO before, during and after they have access to the materials.
  • Require learners’ participation: Your resources and activities will need your learner to DO SOMETHING and receive feedback that let them know what to do next.
  • Evaluation and revise: The learners know their level of achievement and you know HOW to improve on your creation.

The essay intended to make you REFLECT on your journey of creating your learning blog and objectively COMPARE and CONTRAST what you have done with the standard practice! This is why we emphasized on the importance of having a REFERENCE LIST at the end of your hardcopy of your work as well as a softcopy published in your blog!

Just give yourself a self check, have you fulfill all the requirement mentioned in the instruction regarding your assignment? Reflect on your personal experience, how are you going to improve on it?

The code of conduct for a TEACHER

We have CHOSEN the teaching profession, and willingly SIGNED the contract to receive the training programme.

Are we mentally prepared and psychologically committed to become a TEACHER?

A teacher trains and prepares the citizens as:

  • future leaders who are capable and wise enough to take over the management and make good decision for the well being of the nation in the near future.
  • potential work force and specialists that build a progressive nation
  • good civilians that internalized good values and practice good culture that help to create a loving, caring  and harmonious community
  • embrace the love and determination for life long learning,  that enable us to show positive attitudes,  open mindedness, able and willingly face challanges, last but not least trying out all means to overcome the aversity in life!

We need to learn, become learned, before we are able to share some idea, information, skills, etc.

A good teacher should be competent in SUBJECT MATTERS, pedagogy, soft skills… Where are we now?

This is the 4th semester  in this PISMP programme (all together 7 semesters in IPGKTHO), how much have we learned? Do we realize and appreciate our role as the one who are leading the future leaders once we step into the school as a TEACHER (be it the School Based Experience or Practical teaching or the Real Posting)?

Plagiarism is UNETHICAL!

We are using online Plagiarism Checker to detect any COPY AND PASTE of the original article into the essay WITHOUT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT!

Unfortunately, I came across such unethical acts among TLS2 students!

We do refer to articles for information but need to REWRITE the statement using our own understanding and in our own words. On top of that we have to cite the source of reference in text, and prepare the reference list at the last section of the assignment!

In the university level, this kind of work deserves 0%! The culprit will be expelled!

Here, you will expect very LOW marks for plagiarism!

Referencing style and resources in your assignment

The generally accepted practice is:

Read the first hand information, i.e. the original author and his (her) genuine work.

When an author quotes the other author’s works and ideas, based on his(her) perception and opinion, he(she) had  selectively highlighting certain ideas and ignore the others, some times, even rephrase the statement by adding his(her) own ideas. In other words, it is hearsay instead of the original idea from the original author.

How do we know that you are copying the example form the secondary information?

The APA Publication Manual (6th ed.) says, “Each reference cited in text must appear in the reference list, and each entry in the reference list must be cited in text”

For instance,  when we read about statement which cited “……(Smaldino, 2007)”, if we did not see the title in your reference list, it shows that you are actually quoting what other author said about what he(she) had read as secondary source of information instead of you yourself quoting what the original author had mentioned in his work first hand. This is not the correct practice!

As long as the academic writing is concerned, always go to the original work for reference. What you read in the text books or articles it is merely the summary and opinion of that author,  an overview about a topic as introduction to a new comer like you. You may arrived at different point of view if you read the original source of information yourself.

When you write, it should be reporting with your OWN ideas and understanding!

Do not disclose personal details online

Learn and embrace the good practice such as revealing little or no personal details at all online!

The personal details such as IC number, birthday, hand phone number, address, your where about, relationship, feelings and activities which are too personal could have fallen into the wrong hand and that’s dangerous!

APA Reference Style

Kindly refer to EDU3053 > APA reference style – Use MS Word as your guide for details.

Any way, the original and most authoritative source of information should be the American Psychology Association.org. Go for the Quick Answer – Reference.

Learning Objectives = Learning Outcomes = Content = Evaluation?

Teachers, here are the interesting aspects that we need to ponder!

  • Is your learning outcome = learning objectives?
  • Is your content (reading text, activities, exercises and quizzes) testing on the learning outcome?

For example:

If you want the students to be able read  (pronounce) the poem correctly and recite with appropriate rhythm, asking them to read aloud is the appropriate activity.

Would testing memory, matching words, test their memory, etc be the appropriate evaluation?

Do your quiz items really evaluate your students’ understanding and mastery of concepts and skills?(The instrument that measure and confirm the acquisition of the right concept or skills is said to be have high level of validity.)

Broken links

The blog, web pages operates by the same principle:

  • It contains text,  but
  • hyperlinks to images, audio, videos, animated gifs, documents, webpages that were inserted/linked/embedded to it.

Based on this principle, we knew that inserting imultimedia elements via URL will be risky! If the owner removed the items then your blog shall be left with open windows that failed to display what you intended to show! This is what we termed as Broken Links.

I have came across many cases when I browse through many of your blogs.

So, when it is something IMPORTANT, better play safe by uploading them to the media library and insert into your page or post EXCEPT videos because the file size will be to large and it uses up a lot of storage for the quota allowed for each blog.

How do we arrange our topics in the menu bar?

Usually, the most important items appear in the MAIN (Header) menu, literary, it’s your Home page, about you, your assignment and the contact page. Any thing secondary shall appears in other menu.

It will be a GOOD PRACTICE that you introduce to your learners an overview on where to look for the resources for reading, exercises, quizzes, etc. in the Home page.

Avoid having too many highlighted and RED fonts, we only highlight one or two MOST IMPORTANT word/phrases/instruction to attract attention. Too many of them shall defeat the purpose.

a companion who is better or equal,
let one resolutely pursue a solitary course;
